Harbaugh confirms return for Chris Evans

Michigan fans have been treated this fall to the emergence of Hassan Haskins and Zach Charbonnet in the backfield, but it now appears the group will be even deeper next year. Former U-M running back Chris Evans will be back with the team again next year if all goes according to plan.

Not currently with the program, Evans was knocked off the roster due to academic issues, but posted hints at a return on social media. On Monday, head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed the return.

“Chris will be reinstated for the winter term,” Harbaugh stated. “When he gets back in school, he’ll be able to participate fully in football again.”

A three-year contributor with the program, his year away from football will count as a redshirt, with a final season coming next year.

Appearing in 36 games, including five starts, Evans carried the ball 304 times for 1,722 yards and 14 touchdowns. Also a prolific receiving threat, it is possible that Evans could factor into the passing attack as well when he returns. In three seasons, he pulled in 40 receptions for 392 yards.
