With the start of the college football season less than a month away, the USA Today revealed the first of the major preseason rankings on Thursday, with Michigan coming in at No. 14 in the Amway Coaches Poll.

The Wolverines were the lowest ranked of five Big Ten teams in the top-25, with Wisconsin at No. 7, Penn State at No. 9 and Michigan State at No. 12. Despite major distractions within the program, including head coach Urban Meyer being suspended pending investigation of his knowledge of domestic abuse by a member of his staff, Ohio State topped the group at No. 3.

Michigan opens the season with a night game at Notre Dame on Sep. 1 and the Fighting Irish are also ranked, coming in at No. 11.

Northwestern and Iowa also received votes, ranking at No. 31 and 42 respectively.

This is the third straight year that Michigan has been ranked in the preseason coaches poll, starting last year at No. 9 and 2016 at No. 8.
