Michigan holds off Nebraska in high scoring victory

If improving the defense was a primary goal, Michigan came out of Saturday’s matchup with Nebraska still with a lot of room to grow. Entering the contest on a two-game losing skid though, the Wolverines were happy to grab a 91-85 victory, holding off the Cornhuskers to pull even in conference play.

Comeback falls short despite second half push

Trailing by as many as 11 points to Maryland in the first half, the Wolverines battled back to within striking distance in the second half. Then they did it again. And again. Michigan drew within a single score on several occasions, but was never able to get over the hump. The Terrapins seemed to have an answer every time, defeating the Maize and Blue 77-70.

Wolverines rally late to drop Penn State

It’s been a bad week for Penn State when it comes to holding 14-point leads. Just two days after the Nittany Lions surrendered a fourth quarter advantage in the Rose Bowl, the basketball team met a similar fate in Ann Arbor, where the Wolverines rallied late to claim a 72-69 victory.

The Wolverines suffered a tough defeat in their Big Ten opener, falling to Iowa in overtime. Heading into the first home conference game against Penn State on Wednesday evening, head coach John Beilein, as well as D.J. Wilson and Moritz Wagner reflected on the loss and looked ahead to the future.

Going 10 days between playing games, the Wolverines started Big Ten play on Sunday afternoon at Iowa, taking the contest to overtime before falling 86-83.
