The Wolverines picked up a big addition to the 2014 recruiting class on Saturday morning, when Southfield defensive end Lawrence Marshall announced his commitment to the Maize and Blue. Marshall was set to make an unofficial visit to Michigan this weekend and the trip was enough to help him reach a final decision.

Fresh off its trip to the NCAA Finals, the Michigan basketball program will head into the 2013-14 season with a lot of excitement and optimism. The Wolverines return all but two of the squad’s major contributors, and the incoming freshman class is expected to provide some additional help. While the complete schedule for the upcoming season will not be released from some months, news has been trickling out some of the opponents the Maize and Blue will face.

Schembechler Hall in Ann Arbor is home to a collection of trophies earned by the Wolverines as a team and individually throughout the program’s storied history. That assortment of honors includes trophies for national, Big Ten and bowl game championships, as well as some of college football’s most prestigious individual honors, including the Heisman Trophy. Possibly the most important trophy in the building though is a five-gallon water jug that cost the University of Michigan 30 cents.

On Thursday, the University of Michigan Regents approved new construction projects as part of the Wolverines’ complete overhaul of the athletic campus. Specifically, baseball and softball will go to synthetic turf, and the field hockey team will get a new stadium and facilities. Currently, the Wolverines are undergoing construction to Schembechler Hall and adding a marquee to the Michigan Stadium and Crisler Center. See pictures from both projects.

Over the stretch of just a few days, Michigan was dealt two serious blows, with top two scorers Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. each deciding to forego their eligibility and head to the NBA. On Thursday afternoon, the news for Maize and Blue faithful was much better, with true freshmen Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III each announcing their return for another year.
