Matthews left off NBA Draft Combine invite list

Charles Matthews declared for the NBA Draft on April 20 without hiring an agent, giving him the opportunity to return to Michigan after testing the waters at the pro level, or go forward in pursuing a professional career. One big advantage to that approach can be the opportunity to participate in the NBA Draft Combine, but Matthews was not included on the official list of 69 invited players released on Monday.

Matthews could still potentially participate in the combine if other players drop out from participating. The combine will be held in Chicago from May 16-20, with Matthews having 10 days after that date to reach a final decision on if he will hire and agent and pursue a pro career or announce a return to Michigan. The draft will be held on June 21.

Matthews began his career at Kentucky, where he played sparingly as a true freshman in 2015-16. Upon transferring to Michigan, he sat out a year due to NCAA rules, seeing his first action with the Maize and Blue last fall.

As a redshirt sophomore, Matthews was the Wolverines’ second highest scorer, averaging 13 points per game. He had the second most rebounds on the team with 5.5 per game, and the third most assists of any player with 98, but also committed the most turnovers of any player with 84.
