Previewing the Big Ten slate for the coming weekend, the number of high profile games is not what it was last Saturday, but there are still several intriguing matchups. In fact, there are only four of the 12 games that are particularly easy to call at this point and a few teams that need to be on guard for potential upsets.

Updated scholarship availability and recruiting focus

As is always the case when evaluating the recruiting process, the picture changes over time with team developments. Since the off-season, the Wolverines have lost two defensive backs, with Terrence Talbott and Tamani Carter leaving the squad. In addition, 12 true freshmen have already seen action. The following chart provides an updated look at the makeup of the squad heading into the 2013 season.

Hopkins enjoying new role with team

When junior Stephen Hopkins began at Michigan, enrolling early out of high school, he had high hopes of one day becoming the Wolverines’ next great ball carrier. With the change in coaching staff, however, he has found himself taking on a different role, leading the way for other runners. Rushing for over 5,000 yards in high school, the switch has required certain adjustments to his game.

Big Ten musings: Leaders letdown

When the NCAA decided to step firmly down on the Penn State Nittany Lions in late July, twisting its heal to grind the school’s once proud football program into the pavement, it appeared to many that Wisconsin was being given a free pass to the conference championship game. Ohio State was already ineligible from participating and the rest of the Leaders Division was not a threat.

Roundtree upbeat about team contributions

Michigan senior wide receiver Roy Roundtree hasn’t gotten out to the best start this season only earning three catches for 17 yards in two games. Despite the low numbers so far, he isn’t too concerned with his performance on the field.
