The high school football season in the state of Michigan kicks off this week with no game on the schedule generating more anticipation and excitement than the matchup between the defending Division I state champion Detroit Cass Tech and the defending Division II state champion Birmingham Brother Rice.

BTN notes from practice

News has been tough to come by from Michigan’s fall camp, with the Wolverines locking down the flow of information coming from inside the walls of Schembechler Hall all August. That trend changed somewhat on Thursday, when the Maize and Blue opened their doors the crew from Big Ten Network, which will air a report on Michigan’s practice Friday, Aug. 24 at 10pm eastern. Injuries sideline two players for season

A week ago the Michigan program received the bad news that freshman defensive end Chris Wormley would miss the season with a torn ACL in his knee. On Thursday, the Maize and Blue announced two more major injuries that will force another true freshman, as well as a redshirt freshman, from contributing.

Ten true freshmen with the best shot of playing

When looking at potential true freshmen contributors, there are a variety of factors that are taken into consideration. The first, and probably most important, is if the player is physically ready. If a player doesn’t have the size and muscle needed to play Big Ten football, then it doesn’t really matter how much need there is at the position. That player is just not ready.
