Against Purdue, Michigan had one of its best performances of the season, holding an opponent that had averaged 42.5 points per game to just 13. The Wolverines surrendered only 213 total yards to the Boilermakers and had four takeaways. For Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, it wasn’t the production that impressed him, but the energy he saw on the field.

Borges Tuesday presser notebook

Michigan started the Big Ten season 1-0 with the win over Purdue on Saturday, a dominating performance that has produced a swell of optimism in Ann Arbor. According to offensive coordinator Al Borges, the team never lost its confidence, but the bye week arrived at an excellent time for players to refocus.

Michigan tight end Devin Funchess has been one of the pleasant surprises of the season for the Wolverines so far, pulling in nine receptions for 165 yards and two touchdowns in the last four games. 1st & 10 – leaders and best vs. Purdue

Two weeks ago Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson observed his birthday, but did very little celebrating following a 13-6 loss to Notre Dame that included four interceptions and a fumble by the senior.  Robinson apologized to his teammates and fans following the game, saying he would play better.  He got his chance to prove it Saturday against Purdue.
