Versatility of positions a possibility on defense

While roster listings and depth charts paint a very black and white picture of how a squad will line up, they rarely provide a complete representation of what the team really looks like when it takes to the field. That’s always been the case in football, but if early statements from the new Michigan coaching staff are any indication, the phenomenon could be amplified even more going forward.

Averaging fewer than 21 points per game last year, Michigan's offense is going to have to step up in a major way for head coach Jim Harbaugh to reach his desired goals. At the heart of making that happen is Tim Drevno, who will not only coordinate the offense, but also work to mentor the beleaguered line, which has struggled in recent seasons. Following the Wolverines' second practice of the spring, he met with the media for the first time since arriving in Ann Arbor, talking about both the line and the offense as a whole.

Linebacker working at end, secondary switch

With the start of spring practice, fans are clamoring to know more about the direction of the program and early progress being made under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. It’s probably too early to say much about those matters, and Harbaugh himself said as much on Tuesday evening. However, Michigan posted video from its first practice and there were interesting things to see when examined closely.

Sione Houma out for spring practice

It was already known that running back Drake Johnson and tight end Khalid Hill would be held out from full participation in spring practice as they recover from torn ACLs suffered during the season. On Tuesday evening, following Michigan’s first session of activities, new head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that senior fullback Sione Houma would also be missing from the action due to an undisclosed injury.
