Season over, but fans should be hopeful for the future

While the Michigan basketball team didn’t have as many shining moments as years past, the 2014-15 squad will go down as one that continued to scrap and claw its way along despite numerous injuries and setbacks. That might not have been enough with the Wolverines receiving the news on Sunday evening that they did not get invited to the NIT, but rather than lingering on a sour taste, fans of the Maize and Blue should excited about what the future holds.

Michigan puts up fight, but falls to Wisconsin in BTT

The Wolverines led for most of the first half against Wisconsin, and put up a good fight throughout, but ultimately fell in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday afternoon. The contest was tied heading into the final five minutes, but a late surge from the Badgers sent the Maize and Blue heading home with a 71-60 defeat.

Wolverines dominate Illinois in BTT victory

The Wolverines won only two games in their final nine during the regular season, but didn’t show many signs of weakness in their opening contest of the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago against Illinois on Thursday afternoon, advancing with a 73-55 victory.

Beilein, players preview Big Ten Tournament

The next week of basketball could go a number of different ways for the Wolverines, either sending the Maize and Blue into post-season action beyond the conference tournament or marking the start of a very long offseason. Prior to heading to Chicago, head coach John Beilein, as well as senior Max Bielfeldt, junior Spike Albrecht and freshman Aubrey Dawkins addressed the mindset of the team.

U-M to start with Illinois in Big Ten Tournament

Finishing the season at 15-15, Michigan will need a strong showing in the Big Ten Tournament to make a case to appear in the NIT. The Wolverines drew a No. 9 seed, starting out with a matchup against Illinois on Thursday.
