Wolverines to face Xavier in Gavitt Tipoff

News had already surfaced that Michigan would be among the Big Ten teams facing off against the Big East in the first annual Gavitt Tipoff, and on Wednesday it was revealed who the Wolverines would face. In the final matchup of an eight-game series between the two conferences on Fri., Nov 20, the Maize and Blue will host Xavier.

The Michigan basketball program received a big boost on Tuesday with Caris LeVert announcing his return to the Maize and Blue for his senior year, passing on the opportunity to enter the NBA Draft. Following the release of the news, LeVert met with the media to discuss his choice.

Caris LeVert returning for senior year

Coming off a disappointing season, the Michigan basketball received very positive news on Tuesday morning with Caris LeVert announcing he would return for his senior season. Projected as a first round pick prior to his junior year, he led the Wolverines through the early portion of the season, but suffered a broken foot in the closing seconds of a Jan. 17 win over Northwestern.

Albrecht to miss 4-5 months after surgery

After struggling with hip issues throughout his junior season, and being called on to play far more than expected, Spike Albrecht was forced to weigh whether it was better to spend most of the off-season recovering from a set of surgeries, or to play out his career in pain. On Wednesday morning, Michigan announced that the point guard will in fact go through the long process of returning to full health.

Season over, but fans should be hopeful for the future

While the Michigan basketball team didn’t have as many shining moments as years past, the 2014-15 squad will go down as one that continued to scrap and claw its way along despite numerous injuries and setbacks. That might not have been enough with the Wolverines receiving the news on Sunday evening that they did not get invited to the NIT, but rather than lingering on a sour taste, fans of the Maize and Blue should excited about what the future holds.
