Two and a half weeks in and the Michigan coaching search doesn’t look close to ending soon. Short of Jim Harbaugh stepping down as the 49ers head coach before the season is completed, the earliest possible date for an answer is Dec. 28. But in reality, it will probably take longer than that.

Ricky Doyle to get first career start

Michigan has stuck with the same lineup throughout the first third of the season, with the one exception being the Nicholls State game, when Derrick Walton sat out with an injured toe and was replaced by Spike Albrecht. That trend may change though this Saturday as head coach John Beilein plans to go in the different direction down low.

Report: U-M offering to make Harbaugh highest paid

The veracity of this report has not yet been determined, but if accurate, it would certainly confirm that the Wolverines aren’t afraid to spend in order to get their top head football coaching option. According to Joe Pequeno, a reporter for KPHO-TV, a CBS affiliate out of Phoenix, Ariz., Michigan has offered Jim Harbaugh a six-year, $49 million contract.

Michael Ferns transferring to West Virginia

Linebacker Michael Ferns was the first player to declare his intentions to join Michigan’s 2015 class, playing an active role in recruiting others. He revealed this week that he would be the first in the group leave Ann Arbor as well, announcing his plans to transfer to West Virginia.
