Former Michigan offensive linemen Steve Hutchinson and Jeff Backus have followed an unusually similar path through life so far. The Deep South duo selected the Wolverines in the same year, started four years next each other on the left side of the line, and were drafted with the No. 17 and No. 18 overall picks of the NFL Draft. In March, their parallel path continued, with each announcing his retirement just two days apart.

Michigan athletics has a long history of supporting the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, and on Sunday afternoon past Wolverine greats gathered for Griese/Hutchinson/Woodson Champions for Children's Hearts Golf Outing to help benefit the cause. While a precise figure has not yet been calculated and announced, the event is estimated to have brought in over a million dollars.

Heading into his 16th year in the NFL, former Michigan defensive back Charles Woodson finds himself in an unfamiliar position. Already well into the off-season, he has yet to sign on with a team. So far, Woodson has visited San Francisco and Denver, but questioned on what the future holds, the former Heisman Trophy winner admits to being up in the air.

On Thursday, the University of Michigan Regents approved new construction projects as part of the Wolverines’ complete overhaul of the athletic campus. Specifically, baseball and softball will go to synthetic turf, and the field hockey team will get a new stadium and facilities. Currently, the Wolverines are undergoing construction to Schembechler Hall and adding a marquee to the Michigan Stadium and Crisler Center. See pictures from both projects.
